Marilyn Napier (she/her), MAEd, LMHCA
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (#MC61534637) providing in-person therapy services in Seattle and telehealth therapy services for all of Washington state to individuals and couples. I am under the supervision of Jacqueline Nelson, LMHC. I have a Bachelor’s of Arts in Journalism from Western Washington University and a Master’s of Arts in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Seattle University.
I work with individuals and couples who are experiencing anxiety, stress, burnout, relational challenges, trauma, perfectionism, grief, depression, insomnia, and difficult life transitions. I work from a relational, psychodynamic lens. I have done trainings in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and completed the Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I also incorporate somatic techniques into my practice.
Being a therapist is a second (sort of third) career for me after starting my career in journalism and going on to work in tech marketing. One thing I noticed about working in these high-stress environments is just how much they can impact every facet of your life — your mental health, your relationships, and your physical health to name a few. “Having it all together” can look so easy on the outside, when really you’re struggling deeply inside but feel you can’t break down because others are counting on you and you’ve set high expectations for yourself. If this is you, I get it. I’ve been there and sometimes it can feel impossible to get off the hamster wheel that has been set in motion.
My approach to therapy involves helping you uncover what’s beneath the surface and how your past life experiences and relationships have impacted you. We’ll work together to process what you are experiencing and make sense of what has led you to this point.
My intention is to create a safe and inclusive environment in the therapy room that is trauma-informed, anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming, weight inclusive, sex-positive, feminist, pro-immigrant, neurodiversity affirming, and disability justice oriented.
